If you're here because Publisher is gone

Microsoft began removing Publisher from Microsoft 365 on October 1, 2026, and support for copies people bought outright ended on October 13, 2026 (Microsoft's announcement). If your bulletin or newsletter lived in a .pub file, you haven't lost it, and you don't have to learn a design program to keep going.

The templates

Each one is a free Word file with its own page of instructions. Click a title to see every page of it before you download.

How it works

  1. Download. Each template is a single Word file (.docx). Click the green button on its page and it saves to your Downloads folder. There's nothing to sign up for.
  2. Fill it in. Open it in Word and type over every word in [square brackets]. The layout is built from columns and tables, not floating boxes, so it keeps its shape as you type.
  3. Print. Each template page tells you exactly which printer setting to use, and our printing guide covers the church copier.

No Word? Upload the file to Google Drive and it opens in Google Docs, or open it in LibreOffice, which is free. Each template page explains both.

Dates for your bulletin

The dates below follow the Western church calendar used by Catholic and most Protestant churches, plus three U.S. holidays many bulletins mention. Many Orthodox churches keep Easter on a different date (U.S. Naval Observatory). Your browser works the list out from today's date; nothing is sent anywhere.

  1. All Saints’ Day
  2. Thanksgiving Day
  3. First Sunday of Advent
  4. Christmas Eve
  5. Christmas Day
  6. Epiphany
  7. Ash Wednesday
  8. Palm Sunday
  9. Maundy Thursday
  10. Good Friday
  11. Easter Sunday
  12. Mother’s Day

How they're worked out: Easter is the first Sunday after the church's full moon on or after March 21 (USNO); Ash Wednesday is 46 days before it and Pentecost 49 days after; Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November (5 U.S.C. 6103), Mother's Day the second Sunday in May (36 U.S.C. 117) and Father's Day the third Sunday in June (36 U.S.C. 109).

About these templates

Every template is set in Georgia, a typeface that comes with Windows and Mac computers and that Google Docs offers too, so it looks the same wherever it's opened. Body text is 12 points in the bulletins and 14 points in the large-print order of worship. Placeholders are in square brackets, so it's easy to see what still needs changing.

The only scripture and hymn words printed in them are in the public domain in the United States: the King James Version, Thomas Ken's Doxology and the first verse of "Abide with Me". Before you add anything newer, read hymns and copyright in bulletins.

Each file is converted, opened again and printed to PDF by LibreOffice before it goes on this site; the pictures you see are made from the same files you download. They're free to use, change and print for your church, club or family.
